David and I went hiking at Red Rock Canyon National Park a week or two ago and I wanted to post pictures of the hike. Red Rock Canyon is an incredible park and I love going there. Now that I have moved back to Summerlin, I live a 15-minute drive from the park. I feel like it's a crime if I don't go there at least once a month.
This time, David and I decided to do the Ice Box Canyon trail. I have heard it's called this because it's normally 20 degrees cooler than the rest of the park, which makes for a bearable hike in the summertime.
As you can see, we were wearing t-shirts, although it wasn't that hot there that day. I think Red Rock is a little cooler than the rest of the city, but it's still April, so it's not really that hot yet at all. In face, we're having a really mild spring. Usually by this time it's already in the 80s—although I think it's suppose to get there this weekend.
Anyway, here are a couple of photos

You can see the Calico Hills (red rocks) and Turtle Head Peak (on left) in this photo.

There were a lot of people out on the trail that day. We climbed about half way and then backtracked and took a different trail where there wasn't anyone else.

We found a little creek with and sat down on the rocks to relax. David dubbed this 'sofa rock'.

Here I am doing a goofy pose on the creek. I kept accidentally putting my feet in the water while this picture was being taken.

Here we are at the trail head. The trail goes back into those mountains you see behind us.

I was hoping to see some cool animals, but there wasn't much out there that day. David saw a small lizard (I missed it) and it seems that several of the trees had large communal larvae sacks full of some kind of small caterpillars.
I was happy to hike this trail; it's one of the ones I've been wanting to do for a long time. We didn't actually finish the trail; we ran out of energy and no provisions. But we'll head back sometime and finish it.
